How to add Google Analytics to Unbounce

Read while you watch!

If you are going to spend time and money promoting a web page, you always need to track your results.

Today, I am going to show you how to add Google Analytics to Unbounce.

Unbounce is a piece of software that allows you to build landing pages easily.  It is a visual editor, which means you don’t need to know how to code to build your landing pages.

In order to use Unbounce properly you will want to be tracking your results. Google Analytics is the most common way to do that.  Even if you don’t think you need the data, you should still add it in.  Because you may want to use that information in the future.

In this tutorial I will show you two different ways to add the Google Analytics code.  The first way is how you add it manually to a specific page.  The second way is how you add it automatically to all the pages you build in Unbounce.

Manually adding code to a specific page.

To get started, you will use one of your Unbounce pages or create a new one.

I will create a new one here by clicking on Create New Page.

Then I will just choose one of the templates from the list.

Here we are in the landing page builder now.

You are looking for the Javascript button at the bottom of the page.

Click on that, and then choose +Add New Javascript.

You will be pasting your Google Analytics in the text box.

To get the code you need from Google Analytics, sign in to Google Analytics.

Then hit the ADMIN tab. If you have multiple accounts you will need to choose the one you want to use.

Then under the property heading, click on Tracking Info. Then click on Tracking Code.

Copy the code that is in the Website tracking box.

Now, paste that code in the Unbounce Javascript text box.

Under script name, enter Google Analytics so you will know what it is in the future.

And change the placement to “Head.”

Then click save code.

Next click on Form confirmation Dialog at the top of the page.

Then click on Javascripts again at the bottom

Add your Google Analytics code in there again, change the placement to Head,  and click save code.

That will track your desktop page and your mobile page.

You have now added Google Analytics to your page.

Automatically add it to every new page.

If you don’t want to have to add Google Analytics every time you create a new page, I will show you how to add it to every page automatically.

On your main page, under settings click on script manager.

Here you can add the Google Analytics script to every new landing page you create.  Click add a script. Then choose Google Analytics unless you already have that option selected.

Here you need to enter in your Website Tracking ID. To get that, go back to Google Analytics.

On the same page we were on, near the top you will find your Tracking ID.

Copy that and paste it in Unbounce. Then click Add Script Details.

Choose the domain you want Google Analytics to track.

Then click Save and Publish Script

My recommendation

Unless you are an advanced user, I recommend that you use the automatic method for adding it to your Unbounce pages. It will give you better data and you won’t forget to put it in.
